LATEST UPDATES
Plot of the month for May 2017 is provided by the PRIMAVERA project as part of its user engagement activities, which explains the need for high-resolution modelling to understand extratropical cyclones which affect Europe.
Plot of the month for April 2017 is from Pier Luigi Vidale, who uses the high-resolution UPSCALE data to examine tropical cyclones.
Three new posts are now available in our research group to complement and enhance our high-resolution global climate modelling and land surface processes research.
The overall goal of the project is to further develop our capability in process-based numerical simulation and analysis. The scientific focus that links the three posts is the study of the processes that govern organised convection (e.g. in Easterly Waves, Tropical and Extra-Tropical Cyclones) and land surface-atmosphere interactions.
Plot of the month for March 2017 is from recent published work by Reinhard Schiemann et al., who study how the representation of Northern Hemisphere blocking changes with increasing resolution across different global GCMs.
Many societally-important sectors use climate information, such as transport, energy and insurance. Engaging with these users is an integral part of the PRIMAVERA project, but more than this, we are inviting direct user input into forthcoming high-resolution global climate simulations which will be delivered during the project.
